Gavin Newsom calls Biden's age a ‘gift' rather than a liability
[Washington Examiner] Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) defended President Joe Biden despite growing concerns over his age and mental acuity, contending that the president’s seeking four more years to express his "age" and "wisdom" is a "gift."
The California governor dismissed concerns about Biden leading the Democratic Party’s ticket in November, arguing that the president’s tenure in the White House has been a "masterclass" and that he is "all in" for four more years, while on NBC News’s Meet the Press.
"We have American manufacturing coming back home, all because of Biden’s wisdom, because of his temperance, his capacity to lead in a bipartisan manner — which is an underrepresented point. So I have great confidence moving forward. So the answer is absolutely. All in, in terms of the next four years for Joe Biden," Newsom said.
Newsom also argued that the president has been successful "because of his age" and described him seeking another four-year term as a "gift" for the "American people."
"I’ve been out with him as you know, on the campaign trail — was just out in California — I’ve seen him up close. I’ve seen him from afar, but here’s my point. It’s because of his age that he’s been so successful. It’s because of the wisdom and the character that’s developed over the years," Newsom said, before listing off bills, such as the bipartisan infrastructure bill, which Biden signed into law.
"So the opportunity to express that for four more years, what a gift it is for the American people, and as a Democrat, what it gets for me to make the case for the leader of our party, Joe Biden," he added.
