Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...leader Mohamed Mire, also known as Abu Abdirahman, has been confirmed dead following a targeted dronezap in the Lower Shabelle region of Somalia. The attack took place near Kunyo Barow, where Mire was reportedly killed while holding a meeting. Mire, who had been with al-Shabaab for over 15 years, was a key figure within the organization, previously serving as the governor of the Hiraan region and a member of the Shura Council. More recently, he held the position of head of regions (Wilayaat), a role central to the group’s administrative and strategic operations. His designation as a global terrorist by both the United States and the United Nations ...a formerly good idea gone bad...
