Cambodia nabs 4, foils bomb threat to disrupt Asean meet
Four men have been arrested for planting bombs aimed at disrupting a South-east Asian ministerial meeting near Cambodia's famed Angkor temple complex, police said on Tuesday. National police chief Hok Lundy said police found two bombs planted at brothels in the tourist town of Siem Reap while another device was found in a garbage bin on a nearby street. 'They wanted to disturb the meeting of the Asean ministers and to scare tourists away from Siem Reap.' Three men were arrested late on Sunday and another was detained on Monday, he said, adding that police were hunting for two or three other suspects. All those involved in the plot were former Cambodian soldiers who deserted from the army many years ago, he said. The bombs were planted around a kilometre from the Angkor Century Hotel where Asean rural development ministers were holding a conference on poverty. The police chief said the suspects confessed they had been hired to plant the bombs by an unidentified third party. JI, perhaps?
