Aircraft Carrier May Be Sent Back to Gulf Region
The Defense Department has placed the USS George Washington, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, on alert for a possible return to the Gulf region only days after it came back from a six-month deployment, a U.S. official said on Friday.The development came as the United States continues to build up its forces in the Gulf region ahead of a possible war against Iraq. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the redeployment of the George Washington could come with 96 hours notice.
