Stealth Fighters Deploy From N.M. Base
Under cover of night, five black stealth fighters roared off the runway at Holloman Air Force Base this week, part of a group that could be on a return mission to Iraq. Heading to Quatar? "This is pretty much the big game," said Col. Jim Hunt, commander of the 49th Fighter Wing, which includes about 50 stealth fighters, the nation's only stealths. "This is kind of the climax." Sounds like they've been practicing hard. Over the Atlantic, he said, the fighters will fly next to tankers and get refueled up to 11 times so they are ready to respond immediately if necessary.
