Five men with suspected links to al-Qaida will go on trial next month in Frankfurt on charges they plotted to bomb a crowded gift market during the Christmas season. The men are charged with being members of a terrorist organization and plotting an attack on the market in Strasbourg, seat of the European Parliament, in December 2000. Four of the thugs were arrested after raids on two Frankfurt apartments turned up more than 44 pounds of explosives, fake documents and a videotape of the Christmas market. An off-camera voice referred to the "symbol of the heathens." The fifth man was arrested last April.
