U.S. seeks to ease airport hassles

Airline passengers soon may be able to board a plane without being asked whether they have kept a close watch on their bags. And starting right away, they can take drinks through security checkpoints. The Transportation Security Administration, created after Sept. 11 to oversee airport security, is seeking ways to make travel less onerous. Among the considerations is getting rid of the questions, says agency chief James Loy.
If I was Norm, and I'm not, I'd just contract the whole thing out to El Al. They can add more cosmetix than Michael Jackson and Liza Minelli wear combined, but the issue's still got to be security. That doesn't mean pre-flight biopsies for little old ladies. That would involve some sort of legislation blocking the flood of lawsuits that'll come if we ever do try to take a serious approach to the matter. There've already been a few suits by indignant Middle Easterners and South Asians when someone has tried to show some good sense...
