| Syria, Soddies warn against war with Iraq... |

| Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah warned that launching war on Iraq would destabilise the region and lead to a human tragedy. "Human tragedy" in this case being 3000 or so princes without jobs... The warning came in talks held in the Saudi Red Sea city of Jeddah during a brief visit by President Assad to the kingdom. Assad and Prince Abdullah reviewed "developments in the (Gulf) region which may lead to undesirable results, destabilise peace and security in the region and the world and produce human tragedies," SPA said, in reference to US threats to wage war on Iraq. Any change at all to the status quo seems likely to "destabilize the entire region." I think that's really neat: anything we do has the capability of causing everything to collapse. But if things are that shaky, why do they call it "stability"? |
