Iraq Baath Party official killed in Nasiriya
2003-03-30
The Information department of the Supreme Assembly of the Islamic Revolution of Iraq (SAIRI) said on Sunday that an official with the Iraqi Baath Party along with scores of its members were killed in Nassiriya. Helal Kate' al-Ali as well as 60 other members of the party were killed during bombardment of the party's office in Nasiriya by US and British warplanes, SAIRI said. The SAIRI report gives no further information on the exact time of the bombardment.
Not bad. 200 at a pop yesterday in Basra, 60 at a time today in Nasiriyah. I like it...

#3  If he thinks Basra and Nasiriya are lost, I think he'd likely use gas on them.

#2  "better to hold off on the forward advance, and hit the baathists hard, to secure the cities and build a base of good will."

Sorry, that's exactly what saddam hasbeen wants us to do. We can't let up the pressure on Baghdad for ANYTHING. We keep advancing, moving closer and closer, surround the city, and start squeezing. The sooner ALL the Ba'ath party is found, rounded up, and turned over to the Iraqi people for execution trial, the better.

#1  we must continue to do this, quickly and decisively, if we are to win hearts and minds campaign - death squad attacks may be only a nuisance to the logistics chain, but they distance our troops from the population, make them wary and even trigger-happy, and lead to downward spiral. better to hold off on the forward advance, and hit the baathists hard, to secure the cities and build a base of good will.
