U.S. forces surround Najaf
2003-03-30
U.S. troops encircled the Iraqi city of Najaf on Sunday, blocking roads into town and preparing to go door to door to root out paramilitary supporters of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. "This is our type of fight," said Command Sgt. Maj. Marvin Hill, of the 101st Airborne Division. "This is probably the most dangerous part of combat and that's urban. Sometimes you don't find out who the enemy is until they're shooting at you." Najaf, about 100 miles south of Baghdad, is a key stepping stone to the capital, but moving into the Shiite holy city could be a dangerous operation. On Saturday, a suicide bomb attack killed four U.S. soldiers at a checkpoint near town, and Baghdad pledged more such attacks.

#1  Watch media biassholes find another excuse to report Coalition troops being "bogged down" by "Iraqi people" who have proven they are "willing to fight." Battles such as have been fought in the south of Iraq, are ENCIRCLEMENT battles, or tactical contests. How has the Coalition done in the strategic contest? They pacified the southern oil installation area within 2 days. They encircled every southern and middle Iraq city within 4 days. They approached Baghdad within 4 days. They began prepping for a final assault on Baghdad, within 5 days. I believe that the strategic objectives were achieved with only 4 Coalition casualties. Tactical assault casualties are relatively small, and most are attributable to mistakes. As for the encirclements, Hitlers Wehrmacht was still fighting these as his army reached Moscow. And Allied troops indulged German occupation of channel ports throughout WW2. The Japs were also allowed to sit it out in the Aleutians.

I will admit that the falsehoods reported by Western journalists are not intention untruths. Most of these dim-bulbs have no military background, and regurgitate cliche analysis.
