Hamas praises Yemen’s stance
2003-06-20
Moneer Saeed, the Hamas Islamic Movement’s representative in Sana’a condemned US accusations to Hamas of being a terrorist organization and praised the stance of Yemen’s leadership in rejecting US demands to close down Hamas offices in Yemen. "Yemen has supported the Palestinian struggle despite US pressure and this stance is one of the most honorable stances in the Arab world both in the public and official domains. Your country’s stance has manifested itself clearly through the reiterated speeches given by the president on more than one occasion to defend our people’s struggle.” Mr. Moneer said. “President Saleh has taken keen interest to make a clear distinction between terrorism and legitimate resistance against occupation to get legal rights in life, freedom, and total independence.”
"Yeah. It's only terrorism when somebody else does it, not us."
Moneer emphasized in an interview with Yemen Times last week on Palestinian national unity in order to confront “Zionist superciliousness”. He also said that it is not destined for the Road Map’s initiative to settle the Arab-Israeli conflict because “the Road Map has disparaged the legal rights of the Palestinians. All legal issues of the Palestinians are now subject to great challenges and real threats,” he said.
"Give us a road map! Give us a road map! We demand you give us a road map!... Nah. That stinks. Give us something else."
The Hamas representative added that “the Israeli government chaired by Israeli war criminal Ariel Sharon doesn’t believe in peace. It just believes in the language of suppression, arrogance, mass murder and aggression against the defenseless Palestinian people.” Moneer indicated that the creation of an independent Palestinian State and Jerusalem as its capital will only be possible on a comprehensive and just peace deal for the whole Middle East region.
"To get there, we have to kill all the Jews."
Moneer described the attempted assassination by Israeli air force targeting one of the most prominent leaders of Hamas, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Rantissi on June 10 in Gaza as “a terrorist and coward act, which is clear testimony of the brutality of the Zionist terrorist regime... Such Zionist terrorist acts will not stop the Palestinian people from continuing their resistance through Hamas militants and other militant groups against the Israeli aggression until the Palestinians achieve freedom and independence,” he said.
"'Cuz that's what lemmings do best..."
Moneer Saeed concluded his statement by once again praising Yemen’s leadership and people’s stance in defending Hamas against US accusations. However, analysts believe that increasing pressure on the Yemen government to close down Hamas offices might eventually result in the closure of those offices and banning of activities of Hamas and other similar groups in the country. They claim that the decision to close down offices of Hamas and ban them from operation in Syria may well be taken in Yemen.
