Bashir appeals his sedition conviction
2003-10-09
Abu Bakar Bashir, a Muslim cleric sentenced to four years in jail for sedition has appealed his verdict to the High Court here, his attorneys said Wednesday. Bashir's attorney Mohammad Mahendratta said prosecutors had offered no evidence showing his client wanted to overthrow the Indonesian government. Bashir was merely advocating sharia (Islamic law), the lawyer said.

And offing the Veep (at the time) Milliwatti is covered, I'm sure, under sharia... uppity femalian!

Fred, when the Indos let Bashir count muzzle blasts, I'll be impressed, too. I think they're doing surprisingly well regards the foot soldiers - almost makes a believer out of me - but the JI brass is getting a pass, so no go. Bashir should be burned at the stake, so to speak, cuz he's such a sniveling little weenie, yet here he is complaining about his trifling sentence. Relative to the crime he was convicted of, it's absurd. Relative to his part in Bali, it's grossly offensive. And I would never let the Indos or Mals have Hamball or any other leader that we manage to get our hands on first. Which reminds me - have Mahathir's boys gotten anything out of Mrs Hamball? ;-)
