Qaradawi rejects post of Murshid of Muslim Brothers |
2004-01-12 |
The Islamic clergyman, Youssef al-Qaradawi, yesterday denied news which spoke of his nomination for the post of the general Murshid for the Ikhwan al-Musilimin (Muslim Brothers) group, after the death of the general Murshid, Muhammad Mamoun al-Hudeibi in Egypt last week. A statement issued from al-Qaradawi office said "I have preferred since a long time not to be linked to any organization that limits my movement, even if it is the Muslim Brothers, the group under the shadow of which I spent my youth and life span in serving it." "If nominated I will not run, if elected I’ll run like hell." He added that he was consulted to assume the post of the general Murshid, after the death of Hassan al-Hudeibi (the second general Murshid of the Muslim brothers), and before the death of Omar al-Talmisani (the third general Murshid), and he "refrained from taking this post." "Are you nuts? Everyone in this post is dropping dead." |
