Smoke was seen rising from Riyadh's eastern suburbs where the shootout began during the afternoon, security officials told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity. Large numbers of police cordoned off the area and ambulances went to the scene, the witnesses said. There was no immediate word of any casualties, and it was not yet clear who the militants were or for what they were being sought.
