The Jamaat-e-Islami will stage a long march to Islamabad with the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal if the government decides to send troops to Iraq, the Jamaat's Majlis-e-Shoora decided at a meeting in Mansoora on Saturday. The council also decided to call demonstrations throughout Pakistan on August 6 to express solidarity with the Iraqi people.

MMA leader and JI Punjab President Liaqat Baloch, speaking at the concluding session of the meeting, said that the components of the MMA were "at daggers drawn" with the military and civil establishment over their "ineffective national and foreign policies" that were putting Pakistan's integrity at stake. He said the repeated military interventions in government had weakened democratic institutions and put a question mark on the future of democracy in the country. |
