Jordan rejects Hezbollah mediation offer for prisoners' release in Israel
2004-08-21
Jordan has rebuffed plans by family members of 23 prisoners and 18 missing Jordanians in Israel to seek the mediation of Hezbollah, Prime Minister Faisal Fayez said on Thursday. "We are following the case of our prisoners and exerting efforts to win their release," said Mr Fayez in an interview with the BBC and DPA. But he said any move to include Hezbollah in such efforts would be totally rejected. "We are a sovereign state and we do not allow any party to meddle in the cause of our prisoners." Mr Fayez recalled that a visit to Amman by Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom was shelved at the last minute last February over differences of opinion. The visit was to have coincided with the release of 10 Jordanian prisoners in Israel. Disgruntled family members of Jordanian prisoners have expressed readiness to visit Lebanon and meet with Hezbollah officials in a bid to win the release of their relatives.

#1  Okay, we've got yet another case, a very serious case, a possibly fatal case, of cognitive dissonance.
