150 al-Qaeda killed in tribal areas since 2003
2004-09-14
Pakistan's military says it has killed some 150 foreign fighters during its 11-month battle against militants in the country's tribal belt. However, the military says senior leaders, including al Qaeda chief, Osama bin Laden, continue to elude authorities. A Pakistan military spokesman says the majority of those killed in military operations in the troubled South Waziristan tribal district, were Uzbeks and Chechens. The spokesman says the military operation is still in progress and it is difficult to say how long it will take.
