Revolt of the Jacksonians

#6  His fore-seeing a split between Jacksonians and libertarians is a no-brainer in any case. The latter would've voted for Kerry (or a Chilean bass) had he said "I've changed since 9/11".

IMHO, a lot of the Jacksonian impulse is libertarian. The "live and let live, but if you screw with me you die" philosophy is the heart of small-l libertarian. It's only the big-L Libertarians who turned it into a purer-than-thou game who insist on a split between classic American life and their ideals.

#5  Rule #1 when trying to establish or butress an argument, cite more than one source. Your own publication doesn't count as a second one. Mr. Pinkerton blew it .

Aside from the Yankee condescension (and a fetish about repeatedly saying 'F*ck'), there's plenty of blanket assertions here. Though he correctly termed it a "matter of honor", the Swift Vets were not so much pro-Bush as they were anti-Kerry. Also, the assertation that "some Jacksonians in California were among the 60 percent of Golden Staters who supported Proposition 71" is like saying there were Marxists in San Diego County who voted against Prop. 66 (repeal of the three-strikes law).

His fore-seeing a split between Jacksonians and libertarians is a no-brainer in any case. The latter would've voted for Kerry (or a Chilean bass) had he said "I've changed since 9/11".

Congratulations, Mr. Pinkerton. You can pick up your 'pompous windbag' plaque at the door.

#4  Unless Pinkerton was adopted, he is of Scotch-Irish descent. That being said, I don't understand his pseudo-intellectual disdain for the Scotch-Irish...If he were true to his roots...

Identity politics is a load of crap when blacks and Hispanics practise it, and it's a load of crap when whites do it, too.

This article is the sort of thing that a professor puts out to curry favor with fellow academics by inflating their sense of intellectual and moral superiority. If he were true to his roots, he would know that most "Jacksonians" were not the target audience for and would be decidedly uncomfortable with "Team America". The people that I grew up with would dismiss him as a pompous a**hole and ignore him.
