Scottish prison authorities are investigating the prison death of Alan Menzies, known as the "Vampire murderer." Menzies, serving 18 years to life in the maximum-security Shotts Prison for murdering Thomas McKendrick, was found dead in prison but no cause of death was given, the BBC reported Monday. Menzies, 23, had said at his 2003 trial he committed murder after being visited by a vampire who told him he would be rewarded with immortality and would become a vampire in the next life. Menzies also told the High Court in Edinburgh he had watched the vampire movie "Queen of the Damned" more than 100 times. He said he attacked McKendrick after his friend insulted the vampire heroine of the movie, played by the late U.S. singer Aaliyah. After McKendrick was dead, Menzies said he drank his blood and ate some flesh. |
