| Joan Baez's Alter Ego, Po' Black "Alice," says "de prezident, he got a bug fer killin" | |

| Note: this is not from Scrappleface. It's a a sympathetic leftist concertgoer's account of a recent Joan Baez performance in Charlottesville VA: "... the most remarkable and disturbing episode in [Joan Baez's concert] occurred halfway through the concert when Joan stopped singing and announced that she had "multiple personalities." One of her multiple personalities is that of a fifteen year old poor black girl named Alice from Turkey Scratch, Arkansas. Another case of PEST? Or is minstrelsy just a lucrative sideline for Joan? Baez decided to share with us Alice's views on the election. Amazed and horrified I watched a rich, famous, extremely white folksinger perform what can only be described as bit of minstrelsy—only the painted on blackface was missing. Alice, the black teenager from Arkansas Baez was pretending to be, spoke in a dialect so broad and thick that it would put Uncle Remus and Amos and Andy to shame. Baez' monologue was filled with phrases like, "I'se g'win ta" to do this that or the other and dropping all final "g's." Baez as Alice made statements like, "de prezident, he be a racist," and "de prezident, he got a bug fer killin'." Finally, since Bush won the election with 58.7 million votes to Kerry's 55.1 million, Alice observed, "Seems lak haf' de country be plumb crazy." Since Baez was reading Alice's notes, it is evident that she thinks that Arkansas' public schools don't teach black children to write standard English. Now you're figuring it out. Keep going... Once Joan finished her minstrelsy riff, the audience, in which I did not see a single black person, went wild with applause and hoots and hollers. I have never felt so embarrassed for a bunch of "liberals" in my life.... Thus is wisdom born. Repeat after me: they're not "progressives", they're reactionaries.

| #18 What is it with liberal and their standing ovations? Did you see the 2 hour standing ovation that they gave Jim MCGreevey before he began his "resignation" speech. Oh..yeah...we are so proud of you for dragging our good state through the mud and giving jobs in homeland security to people who agree to f*&^ you. We are sooo proud of you Jim.!! Or the one they gave Clinton in the Rose garden after he was impeached. Or the one the Rubin awards gave to Ted Rall - Or calling Powell and Rice Uncle Toms and Plantation Mammys. I could go on and on. I think it's all part and part of that adolescent spirit that they never managed to grow out of. |

I'm beginning to think that the Dems will split after all: one DLC wing that can compete nationally (but cannot win in union-controlled big cities), and a fossilized Shrum-MikeyBoy-Jimmuh wing that sweeps big city councils, dominates Manhattan, Bay Area and the college towns and is next to invisible everywhere else. |

| #8 Correct, Lex, but money is far from everything in politics as the Democrats just proved. Kerry out fund raised Bush by a lot and couldn't find ways to spend it all to any positive effect, so he has a next egg for '08 or his life after Terayza. They need voters and they're driving them away. Even in America the lawyers are not yet a majority. |

| #4 AC, the libs have always had a problem with "soft bigotry," its one of their core beliefs. I.E. - poor black folks are just too ignorant and unable to do for themselves, so they need our (the lib elites) enlightened views and largesse from the U.S. Govt in order to progress. Forget the tried and true American traits of hard work, determination, and pioneering spirit, just vote for your living. |
