Bomb explosion kills son of tribal elder in Waziristan
2004-12-24
A bomb exploded outside the home of a tribal elder in a remote northwestern tribal region of Pakistan on Thursday, killing his son and wounding another man, residents and officials said. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the blast in the village of Makin, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) to the north of Wana, the main town in South Waziristan, said Azam Jan, a local resident.
Can't trust those wily Rotarians. They're always up to no good...
He said the dead man, Nazir Ali, 19, was the son of a tribal elder Sharghan Mehsud, who had helped Pakistani forces in operations against Islamic militants. He said the blast also injured a villager, but didn't give other details. Two officials in the area confirmed the incident, but refused to speculate who could be behind the attack.
"Er, we'd prefer not to explode just yet."
Pakistan has said scores of militants - among them Arabs, Central Asians and Afghans - are hiding in South Waziristan, where security forces have carried out several operations in recent months to flush them out.
