The British and Thai embassies in Jakarta have received telephone calls warning them of possible bomb attacks."Hey, thanks for nothing, infidels." | The threats have led to a major security clampdown in the Indonesian capital, with the British Foreign Ministry announcing it is closing its embassy there. Following the telephone warnings, Indonesian police sent bomb squads and anti-terrorism units to the two embassies, which already have Indonesian Army guards, concrete barriers and some blast shield protection. Such warning calls are rare and have sometimes preceded previous attacks which killed dozens of people at major hotels and at the Australian Embassy last September. Both embassies are in the city's central business district close to major hotels. Indonesian police say they are taking the threat seriously. |
