#2  The brain is an extremely complex organ, and any massive trauma is bound to create odd side-effects. Primary among these are changes in the emotions and perceptions. This often leads to the correct interpretation in others that the person has suffered a complete change in their "personality"; but also, the incorrect interpretation that their screwed-up perceptions are somehow "psychic". Even the person themselves may be totally convinced that they are perceiving something paranormal, from some phenomenon like "crossed senses", where people can "see music" or "hear color" and things like that.
