| EFL Mansfield Street residents said Reliable Paving Company blocked the street for two days earlier this month as contractors went door-to-door asking residents whether they needed their lawns paved. Good afternoon, ma'am. Like a tree trimmed? How about paving over your lawn? No more dandelion problems. Neighbors couldn't imagine anyone saying yes but, the next thing they knew, one of the gardens was all asphalt. The house belongs to a Korean-American family that does not speak English. Residents fear they were unaware of the work being done. In an urban neighborhood that is already dense and starved for green space, residents worry that contractors illegally paving their yards is another problem for which they must be on the lookout. They'll need to form a Neighborhood Lawn Watch group. |
