| An alleged Libyan member of a password-protected al-Qaeda affiliated forum today, September 23, 2005, issued an âurgent call upon the Salafist Group for Call and Combatâ to publish an âannouncement regarding moon sightings.â According to the member, Col. Muammar Qaddafi, âthe dog, who is destroying the religion (Islam) and mocking it,â is purported to have forced fasting upon the Libyan Muslims according to calculations based upon the lunar calendar, rather than actual sightings of the moon, which is the time appropriate for fasting. He also indicates that the GSPC is called upon because it is the âMuslim group closest to us.â Further, the member prays for vengeance upon Qaddafi and his followers, stating: âO Allah, may you fight the sinning people who follow the devil - every one of them informing on his Muslim brother for the sake of this world.â |
