 Oct 24, 2005 — GAZA (Reuters) - Palestinian Islamic Jihad militants in Gaza fired rockets toward Israel on Monday in what the group said was an "initial response" to Israel's killing of one of their top commanders in the West Bank. Palestinian witnesses and the army said no casualties were reported in the first such salvo in about a month, when top militant groups said they would stop anti-Israeli attacks from Gaza to honor an eight-month truce. Islamic Jihad had vowed to avenge Israel's killing hours earlier of a top commander of the group who was accused of masterminding suicide bombings that killed 10 Israelis. The militant group said after the killing that the truce could be on the verge of collapse.
