The meeting was called after the UN received less than a third of its earlier $312 million appeal for recovery from the quake. ``It appears that almost half of the money pledged today is for longer-term reconstruction work which, although vital, won't save a single one of the thousands of lives currently hanging in the balance,'' Oxfam, a U.K.-based charity, said in an e-mailed statement. |
