Intelligence Panel Had Clue About Spying
2006-01-04
WASHINGTON (AP) - Congressional intelligence committees had at least a hint in October 2001 that the National Security Agency was expanding its surveillance activities after the 9/11 attacks, according to a letter released Tuesday by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

The California Democrat had raised questions to Gen. Michael Hayden, then the NSA director, about the legal authority to conduct the eavesdropping work.

In the October 2001 letter, Pelosi said she was told in a briefing that month that the agency ``had been operating since the Sept. 11 attacks with an expansive view'' of its authorities ``to the conduct of electronic surveillance under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and related statutes, orders, regulations and guidelines.''

``I am concerned whether, and to what extent, the National Security Agency has received specific presidential authorization for the operations you are conducting,'' Pelosi, then the top Democrat on the intelligence panel, wrote Hayden.
And what did she do when Gen. Hayden replied, "yes"?

#7  Teason, wall, gun shots. I am not being flippant. I want to see some arrests and some prosecutions. This falls far from the normal give and take of politics. The Dem leadership, a few air headed RINOS and MSM are giving aid and comfort in time of war.

Can we then not just take a far more gentle and genteel measure by immediately ending permenantly all federal government support for public broadcasting?

How are we ever going to impress on people this is actually a time of war if our own federal government funds fifth columnist broadcasting?

#6  If we're gonna have fun with Pelosi, I think terpsboy did a masterful job... Here we have some cloakroom dress-up games - and you get Harry Reid for free...

The latex suit / gas mask would work well with the bullwhip, doncha think?

#4  Just like a real bad soap opera where the twists and turns are seen from miles away.

#2  did anyone just watch the Bill O'Reilly and David Letterman exchange? Wow. I'm not a really big O'Reilly fan - though sometimes he's right on. But he just kicked the bejeebus out of David Letterman. Letterman showed himself to be surprisingly air-headed and clueless and wedded to poor, poor Cindy Sheehan and Bush lied on intelligence and why are we in Iraq? When O'Reilly said that Cindy Sheehan called terrorist "freedom fighters" - Letterman said he didn't believe him and thought he was making it up. Then Letterman told O'Reilly that he thought 60% of what he said on TV was crap. O'Reilly asked him to give an example and Letterman said he couldn't cause he didn't watch his show. So O'Reilly said, "then how can you say that?" And Letterman said, "because I read about it" And then O'Reilly scoffed and said, "You read it?" Do you read what they say about you?" Letterman was muted by that.

I love a good sword fight and IMHO O'Reilly got the point to Letterman's chest and then gracefully pulled it off. I'm sure the Dems think the opposite. But it did give a brilliant example of just how clueless half of America is. I know cause I had to listen to half of my family spew the same BDS at Christmas.

#1  Meme after meme, failure after failure. The spaghetti just won't stick to the fridge door. Sucks to be them.

The Dhimmidonks are briefed, as is required, and either they just don't get it, fail to pay attention, or write some cheesedick letter - an imaginary insurance policy for later blowback - and then wait for some propitious partisan moment to pull this ancient shit out of their asses.

Then they do two things: coordinate with their partners in Dhimmitude in the MSM to "break" the phoney story with breathless prose - and also determine who's got some butt coverage - these whores then get the TV face time to decry the act and create the pretense of shock.

ROFL.

That anyone falls for this shop-worn BS anymore - the "high drama" when they suddenly "discover" the bogus scandal - painted as pure evil -- surely worthy of impeachment, is the only remarkable thing about the scam.

Dhimmidonks just don't get it. They are out of power and should remain out until they flush out their party with a massive megadosage of Ex-Lax... Say a decade's production of the stuff. I empathize with the comparatively quiet and disenfranchised few who aren't utterly full of shit. Lieberman is the only one who comes to mind. Prolly a couple more, but they're definitely names we don't hear with regularity - the leadership has seen to it that only the True Kool Aid Kiddies get the stamp of approval for press coverage - and their MSM co-conspirators oblige them.
