2006-03-30 | |
Sierra Leone's war crimes tribunal has asked the International Criminal Court (ICC) to host the trial of ex-Liberian leader Charles Taylor, officials say. A spokesman for the Dutch foreign ministry said a formal request had been made to the court in The Hague. Liberian leader Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has backed the request, reports say. Mr Taylor, who was captured on Wednesday in Nigeria, faces charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including responsibility for murder.

#2 Taylor escaped from an American prison, fled the country and overthrew the Liberian regime. Doubtful those UN guards can hold him. |
