SUKKUR: Unidentified gunmen attacked a convoy of Hindu pilgrims in a remote area of Sindh, killing two and wounding seven, police said on Monday. "They were returning from a holy place when three armed men opened fire and killed two men and wounded seven," said police official Rana Sanaullah, who, along with hospital officials, confirmed that all the dead and wounded were Pakistani citizens. The convoy of about 20 vehicles carrying both Pakistani and Indian Hindus was attacked late on Sunday, police said. One pilgrim from India, Ramesh Lal, described the attack as an act of "terrorism", saying "they're trying to discourage us from coming here". Pakistan recently relaxed entry restrictions for Hindus and Sikhs from India wishing to visit holy sites in its territory, as part of gradually improving relations between Islamabad and New Delhi. |
