Official Apologizes For Saying Bush Should Be Shot Between Eyes | |||
2006-06-02 | |||
NEW YORK -- State Comptroller Alan Hevesi publicly apologized Thursday for a "beyond dumb" remark about a fellow Democrat putting "a bullet between the president's eyes."
At the news conference, a contrite Hevesi repeated what he recalled saying in the speech. The comptroller said he was merely trying to convey that Schumer has strength and courage to stand up to the president on major policy issues. According to a videotape of the speech, Hevesi said: "The man who, how do I phrase this diplomatically, who will put a bullet between the president's eyes if he could get away with it. The toughest senator, the best representative. A great, great member of the Congress of the United States." Hevesi said he hadn't been in touch with the White House but he hoped his apology reached President Bush. Hevesi, a longtime professor of government and politics at Queens College before becoming comptroller, also referred to his comments as "remarkably stupid" and "incredibly moronic."

#15 OTOH, if he had caught an excruciatingly painful vinereal disease........ Like phylloxera? What's worse is that this toad made his remark at a college commencement. Come on, knotheads, just give 'em a short "look to the future" speech and let everyone go to dinner. |

#14 Here's his apology in the Post.. "I made a remarkably stupid, incredibly moronic, totally offensive statement in attempting to compliment Chuck Schumer and I am abjectly apologetic for the level of stupidity which that comment reflected and the offense it may have given." "What I intended to say is that Chuck Schumer is incredibly smart, courageous, willing even to stand up to the president of the United States on issues of public policy," Hevesi went on. "What came out of my mouth is that Chuck Schumer is smart and brave and capable of putting a bullet between the president's eyes." Sounds to me that he's apologizing to Schumer, not Bush. And from Chucky... "The bottom line is this, Comptroller Hevesi was trying to make a point," Schumer said. "He went way too far. What he said was wrong and inappropriate. He has apologized to me and to President Bush and I believe that should end this matter." What "point" was that, Chucky? |

#13 Yeah. Real sorry I said it. But I'm not sorry at all that I thought it. Or that I still do. |

#11 Here all along I thought the left was big on "Speaking Truth to Power"[tm]. Isn't it all about how you really feel not about facts? So why the apology? Oh, I forgot, they, like their Western Hating Islamists Brothers[tm], believe that it is also OK to lie to the infidel (i.e. unbelievers in the one true faith). Never mind. |

#6 Did this apology come before or after he was lead away in handcuffs by the Secret Service folks? A person shouldn't be able to utter such heinous porposals then apologize and that would be the end of it. NOPE! Ain't buying it. |

#3 Forgot to say that iff true, Hevesi's alleged comments once again shows that RINO DemoLefties are not afraid to induce or directly resort to assassination or other violence agianst Prez Bush. THEY WANT AMERICA UNDER "JUSTIFIED" OWG, ANTI-AMER AMERICAN SOCIALSIM, AND SOCIALIST-COMMIE WORLD ORDER AT ANY PRICE, where "justified" means NOT having to explain, ask, or prove to the American people the merits. THEY WANT AMERIKKKA TO ATTACK AS WELL AS FOR AMERICA TO BE ATTACKED - you know, "DAMN THE TORPEDOS" = "CANNOT CONFIRM OR DENY" PATRIOTISM. |

#1 This just make me sick. And these folks held respect for the office of the President of the United States when Clinton was in office? I'm thinkin'... this guy and I have extremely different values. And yes, he got the attention he wants. Other than votes, how can we stop people like him? He prolly is getting more attention, 'cause of his apology. (He needs to stand face to face with our President and make that apology.) Not enough for me. He knew exactly what he was saying when he said it...... Zeezzzz, how do we just shut them up? |
