Six Iraqis killed, 57 injured, family assassinated

Four Iraqi civilians were killed on Friday and 50 were injured in two explosions in one of the busiest market areas of the capital. An Iraqi security source said the two bombs caused damage to a lot of small shops in the Souq Alghazl area, along with several parked vehicles. Eyewitnesses said the two horrific bombings in the early hours today were only minutes apart.

Meanwhile, armed men have assassinated a family of five people in the Al-Dora district in southern Baghdad. An Iraqi security source said the armed men raided a house in the Alskan popular area and shot the whole family in cold blood, a young female survived and has been transferred to hospital, security source added. AL-Dora district has been witnessing assassination attempts and sectarian violence, however it is not yet clear what was the motive for this crime.

In another development, five people were injured including a correspondent for an Egyptian local newspaper who was severely injured from a bomb targeting a police vehicle. A security source said three police men were injured during the attack and two civilians, among them Egyptian correspondent Mohammad Al-Anwar from the AL-Ahram newspaper. The source added all injured were transferred to Red crescent hospital in al Mansour district.
