(KUNA) -- Ten people were killed and 18 wounded on Friday when a booby-trapped car exploded in Basra, southern Iraq, Interior Ministry sources said. The sources told KUNA that the booby-trapped car exploded near a fueling station on Bashar Street, adding that the wounded were taken to hospital for treatment as some had sustained serious injuries. A number of cars in the vicinity had also been destroyed in the bombing, the sources said. Moreover, witnesses told KUNA two suicide bombers had been in the car. Basra is currently on state of alert declared by Prime Minister Nouri Al-Malki aimed at avoiding terrorist attacks in the city.
Meanwhile, the Multi-National Forces said one MNF soldier had been killed in a non-combat incident. It added in a statement that the soldier had been killed late Thursday in Baghdad, but did not state the exact location or details of the accident. |
