| U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Ross Wilson announced on Tuesday in Washington that Chief of General Staff Gen. Yaþar Büyükanýt would be invited to the United States by Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Peter Pace in the coming months. Büyükanýt's visit will take place in February, the Turkish Daily News has learned. At a briefing for Turkish reporters here Wilson described Büyükanýt as a friend of the United States and said that the Pentagon will work closely with him, as it worked with his predecessor, Gen. Hilmi Özkök. Wilson also said the United States is not worried about an ongoing and heightened debate over secularism between the military and the civilian government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoðan. |
