| Annan expresses 'deep' concern over N-test |

| Expressing his "deep" concern over the North Korean nuclear test, United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan on Tuesday said it would aggravate regional tensions in and around the Korean Peninsula and jeopardise security in the region and beyond. The action, he said, "violates international norms of disarmament and non-proliferation as well as the current international moratorium on nuclear testing." In a statement, he urged all parties to respond to this "grave" challenge in a "constructive manner" and appealed for renewal of "serious negotiations" urgently in the framework of the six-party talks aimed at resolving the Korean nuclear issue. |
