(KUNA) -- At least 17 people were killed Wednesday when suspected Tamil rebels attacked a naval base in Southern Sri Lanka. Five boats of the rebels disguised as fishing boats approached the Dakshina naval base, south of the capital, Colombo. Three of the vessels were sunk by the Sri Lankan Navy outside the base but two detonated inside the base, the news agency said. A curfew has been imposed on the town of Galle, a popular tourist destination. No tourists were among the injured at the base, which is not located near Galle's hotels and resorts. |
