France's Le Pen Compares 9/11 Attacks to WWII Raids
2007-02-22
The French presidential candidate Jean-Marie Le Pen provoked outrage among British veterans yesterday when he compared the September 11, 2001, attacks on America to RAF-led bombing raids during World War II.

The National Front leader and presidential candidate said both were "terrorist acts as they expressly targeted civilians to force military leaders to capitulate."

In hugely controversial comments, Mr. Le Pen, who is 79, also dismissed the atrocities in 2001 as a mere "incident."

British World War II veterans reacted with anger toward Mr. Le Pen's comments about the RAF.

#11  Right after 9/11 a ammonium nitrate plant blew up in Toulouse France.
At the center of the explosion were found bodyparts from a muslim who had been fired the day before.
This explosion's cause was reported as an industrial accident and not as a warning to France.

Nobody has ever reported why this fired employee was dead at the scene with a martyrs clothes on.

For some reason this didn't grab much French or world attention other then around Toulouse.

#8  I don't know, JFM. The way things are going here in the US, we may not be speaking American by the time his grandkids arrive on the scene.

#7  May I be the first to wish that you and the French were speaking German right now

I suspect he would like it. Now if you really want to piss him wish that his grand children and all the French speak American. That is the way to cause him him a stroke.

#2  I wonder if he's referring to attacks on German cities, like Dresden, or French cities against Nazi targets? The famous Norden bombsight "bomb in a pickle barrel from 20,000 feet" was rarely that accurate when dodging clouds, flack and fighters, and a lot of "collateral damage" was done all over Europe.

By the way, Mr. Le Pen - You're welcome.

#1  Actually, Bomber Command targeted "built up areas" where the war industry was established. There was some quid pro quo responses to Nazi targeting of Coventry and other civilian areas. Mass murders committed by Germans were carried out by policing agencies as the Gestapo.
