HARRY Potter author J.K. Rowling has pledged a huge reward for information leading to the return of abducted British toddler Madeleine McCann. The toddler turned four on Saturday, an emotional flashpoint that caused her mother Kate to break down and be unable to deliver a public message asking for help finding her daughter.
Billionaire Rowling's offer was made to Britain's News Of The World Sunday newspaper under the condition the amount was not revealed. However the paper said it topped the $2.5 million offered by businessman Stephen Winyard. The offer brings to $9 million the money pledged by British celebrities to help find the missing toddler.
Portuguese police have tried to discourage the rewards, believing they could prejudice the investigation. They are investigating the possibility Madeleine was abducted by pedophiles or an adoption ring. |
