#3 It wasn't, strictly speaking, racism. The mob was not out looking for a non-black to beat up and kill. But again, it was racist, because once presented with a non-black and an 'excuse', there was no hesitation in murdering him. (While it is possible the same would have happened if blacks had been in the car, it is unlikely.)
Had it been Cinco de Mayo, or Talledega 500 Day, or maybe even Chinese New Year, and a black-driven car hit a non-black kid, there's a good chance the crowd would have retaliated. Put yourself in the situation - you're at a Mardi Gras parade and some angel-dusted idiot comes running down the street knocking over the ladders with your kids in the boxes on top - you are going to want to take him down, and if you've had enough to drink and are 'supported' by your buddies, you just might do it. I might (the cops got him first). It's one place the PC crowd has a point - 'diversity' weakens tribal mob behavior (of course it is just replaced with a new 'tribe' of non-genetic affinity.)
Understand that I am not defending the Juneteenth mobs - just saying that we live in glass houses too, and we really don't want anybody throwing stones. We have REAL enemies out there, let's not get a feud going internally. Address the specific situation, but it is best not to generalize too much. |
