Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shabaz Sharif on Thursday filed identical constitutional petitions with the Supreme Court, asking that they be allowed to return to Pakistan and participate in the upcoming general elections.The petitions, filed under Article 184(3) of the Constitution, ask the apex court to stop the federal and provincial governments from obstructing, hampering or resisting the return of the petitioners and their family. “The fundamental right of a citizen to remain in Pakistan is absolute and unqualified under Article 15 of the Constitution, therefore, a citizen cannot under any circumstances be expelled or banished from the country,” said the petitions.
