Car booms injure 10 in central Baghdad
2007-09-12
Two car bombs detonated simultaneously in the Sheik Marouf neighborhood of the Karkh District, injuring 10 Iraqi civilians Sept. 10.

The car bombs, which detonated shortly in the central Baghdad neighborhood, were set off near an Iraqi Army checkpoint that had been set up earlier in the day after Coalition Forces and Iraqi Security Forces received tips that there might be possible car bombs in the area. The cars had been abandoned by their drivers near the checkpoints. Both Coalition Forces and Iraqi Security Forces responded to the scene to provide security and medical assistance. The scene was quickly secured and then cleared by an explosive ordinance disposal team. The attack is under investigation.

#4  The surge is a part of it, but so are the several very high-priority counterIED research projects JIEDDO has sponsored over the last 2 years.

#3  Pretty poor pickings for the Orcs, lotp. Two car bombs net only 10 injured? Used to, a car bomb by itself would kill 20 and injure 50. Seems to be a big drop-off not only in incidents of violence, but in effectiveness as well. SOMETHING is working, and the surge is the logical explanation.

#2  The cars were indeed detonated, causing injuries.

But EOD teams were sent in to make sure there weren't 2nd explosions rigged in the area - a common tactic on the part of the Orcs.

#1  Headline does not match story: if the scene was secured and then cleared by an explosive ordinance sisposal team, whence came the ten injuries?
