President Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday endorsed a statement of the state counsel in the Supreme Court (SC) that he would resign as army chief upon his re-election for a second term in office, during a meeting with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Daily Times learnt. Aziz assured the president that the ruling coalition would back his re-election for the sake of “sustainability and continuity of the democratic process”. |
The meeting took place at the president’s camp office in Rawalpindi. Sources said Aziz congratulated him on this endorsement and said that it showed his commitment to democracy and the national interest.
