Somalia: Afgoye DC escapes bomb attack

(SomaliNet) At least five people mostly security guards have been confirmed wounded in heavy explosion which rocked Afgoye town, some 30km south of the Somalia capital Mogadishu on Thursday morning, witnesses said. According to the local residents, unknown local militant threw a grenade bomb on the townÂ’s ruler who was driving a car inside the town. The district commissioner was reported to have escaped from the attack but some of his bodyguards.

Soon after the blast, the Ethiopian forces along with the police rushed to the scene and helped the wounded. No one was arrested for the latest attack.

Afgoye, which is a small town of lower Shabelle in southern Somalia, saw several times of bomb explosions carried out by the opposition groups. The latest attack had an impact on the business activities as all roads were closed.

On Wednesday afternoon, a Ugandan peacekeeping soldier was wounded in grenade explosion which occurred their position around KM-4 roundabout in south of Mogadishu. Another soldier of the transitional government has also been wounded in that blast. Unknown man has carried out the attack on the Ugandan troops. Four Ugandan peacekeepers have been wounded in Mogadishu violence this week alone.
