'President will quit army, take oath after withdrawing PCO'
2007-11-11
President General Pervez Musharraf will “repeal” the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) before doffing uniform and taking oath of the office of president for a second term, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Sher Afgan Niazi told Daily Times on the phone Saturday.

He said that Musharraf would take oath of the presidentÂ’s office for another term under the Constitution and not the PCO.

“He (the president) will restore the 1973 Constitution before taking oath and doffing his uniform. This will happen after the court dismisses a stay order against the notification of his re-election and the Election Commission notifies the results of the Oct 6 presidential election,” he said. He avoided a comment on the attorney general’s statement that the state of emergency would be lifted in a month, saying that the emergency rule would end and the Constitution would be restored after all matters were settled in the restive Swat valley and Tribal Areas. He said he was hopeful that peace would return to the troubled areas soon.
