Fighting between two rival sects - Sunnis and Shias - continued despite a curfew in Parachinar as army helicopters targeted buildings early on Sunday morning, putting the death toll at 86 with 150 injured, according to security officials and state media. Three security personnel were killed and at least nine wounded as a military convoy was attacked near Balezkhel, local journalist Sarfaraz Ahmad told Daily Times by phone. Ahmad said one person was killed and another two suffered injuries as gunship helicopters pounded Noor Market in Parachinar Bazaar. Two shops, one owned by a PTV reporter, were also burnt in the shelling, he added. According to residents, security personnel have taken positions in Parachinar Bazaar and are targeting buildings and hideouts from where firing emanates. |
