DIBRUGARH: Two hardcore ULFA militants were killed in separate incidents in Assam on Tuesday.In the first incident, Rupak Moran was killed at Raidang area in Tinsukia district in a shootout with security forces, police said. Moran and another rebel had come to the area to collect extortion money. When the troops asked them to stop, the militants fired in a bid to escape. The security forces retaliated and in the ensuing gunfight Moran was killed while the other escaped.

In the other shootout with the army in Baksa district, Naba Saikia was killed at Bogamati area.
Meanwhile, six hardcore militants of the group were apprehended from different parts of the state during stepped- up security measurements to prevent incidents of violence in the run-up to Republic Day. Four militant groups of the north east, including the ULFA, have called for a boycott of Republic Day celebrations.
