| Taliban Gunmen Walk Free After School Hostage |

| Taliban gunmen have been allowed to walk free after they stormed a school in Pakistan and took at least 200 children hostage. Security forces made no attempt to detain the seven militants after negotiators resolved a stand-off lasting several hours. This incident, combined with previous occasions in which hundreds of Pakistani soldiers have surrendered to Taliban fighters, raised new questions about the country's ability and willingness to fight Islamist militancy. |
