Wal-Mart apologizes to Muslim woman
2008-02-20
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. apologized to a Muslim woman who said she was mocked because of her face veil.
What? Did the clerk make a comment about the guy ahead of you forgetting his new barbeque and cover?
"Please don't stick me up," a cashier told the shopper on Feb. 2, according to The Council on American-Islamic Relations.
No, it wasn't because of your veil. It was because of your faith, which was merely indicated by the veil.
Wal-Mart apologized Monday in a letter signed by Rolando Rodriquez, a vice president and regional general manager. It was released Tuesday by the council's Nevada chapter.
Are you sure he wasn't Rolando Floor Laughing?
"I can assure you that the associate in question was disciplined in accordance with our employment policies as a result of the situation," Rodriguez said without disclosing details.
"If you just gotta make fun of her, next time just ask for picture ID! CAIR and the media will take the rest in a way money can't buy!"
Rodriguez said employees at the Riverdale store would undergo "sensitivity training," specifically in the Islamic faith and Muslim culture.
"And from now on, everyone will step into the bathroom left foot first. Toilet paper will be removed from all stalls in favor of wiping with your left hand. While squatting over the freshly dug latrine, make sure to put the majority of your weight on your left foot. And don't forget to step out of the restroom with your right foot first. Try to remember to wash your hands. Hopefully that will make them feel more at home here in America, which is rightfully theirs because they discovered it first. Now, can one of you tell me why they moved here and demand that we change our culture instead of assimilating?"
At Wal-Mart headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., spokesman Phillip Keene confirmed the letter and declined further comment.
Try again in a few minutes. He just finished the WalMart sensitivity training series and has taken up banging his head on the floor five times a day.
"We applaud Wal-Mart for taking appropriate action to resolve this incident," said Yasser Moten, executive director of the council's Nevada chapter. The group doesn't have an office in Utah.
Instead CAIR has their subversion training camp Headquarters in no other place than Washington, D.C..

#12  Re "burka" robberies: a Toronto jewelry store was robbed by men in burkas. I recall other similar incidents.

#11  They shouldn't have even let her into the store.

#10  Next time I'm shopping there I'll dress up (or down as your perspective imagines) as a Celtic Warrior and get a discount on clothes.

"Is that your bagpipe showing or are you just happy to shop here?"

"Et tu, Brute?"

*or, maybe when she heard 'stick', she she had a conditioned response and was afraid he was going to beat her for shopping without a relative. What a slut.

#9  What a bunch of crybabies.

If I wore my kippa (Jewish skullcap) to Wal-Mart and an Arabic clerk said something like, "Please don't send your F-16s to bomb me," I would just say, "Ok, but you better make it snappy and give me a discount, or else."

#8  Could have been worse, he could have said "please don't blow me up."

#7  Perhaps she should be more sensitive to the needs of register-jockeys who are robbed from time to time and have reasonable fears when someone covering their face arrives. She should show her sensitivity by removing her Hajib in public in favor of more modern and less fearful dress.

#6  ItÂ’s only a matter of time before a robber gets the bright idea of disguising himself/herself as a burka slave. Loot in hand, the burka goes in the first handy clump of bushes and nobody has any idea what the robber looked like.

#5  In my fantasy world, Wal-Mart contracts with volunteers from Rantburg to provide "sensitivity training to it's employees. RB volunteers would do a better job and for less $$$ than CAIR will charge for the same service.

#3  If the cashier said the same thing to a woman in a ski mask would Methodists demand an apology?

#2  Yah, they really cater to Christians and Jews in Pakistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia. Quid pro quo, my butt.

#1  Until a pharmaceutical solution is offered, ie, innoculation, pill, patch, etc, Rodriguez said employees at the Riverdale store would undergo "sensitivity training," specifically in the Islamic faith and Muslim culture.
