Military Plane With Iraqi Markings Lands In Venus (Florida)
2008-02-21 | |
Plane is a Cessna (see pic at link) VENUS - A single-engine military airplane with Iraqi Air Force markings made an emergency landing on County Road 731 in Highlands County this afternoon, according to the Highlands County Sheriff's Office. No injuries or damage to the plane were reported. The plane had markings on it identifying it as belonging to the Iraqi Air Force, the sheriff's office confirmed. The Department of Homeland Security said the plane was owned by a contractor working for the U.S. military and not by Iraq.
A single deputy continued to guard the plane by 9 p.m. as it sat on the west shoulder of the road. Sheriffs deputy Jacob Riley, who was there since 6 that evening, said he had a couple of passersby ask him about it. Paper and silver foil covered several parts of the plane on its right side. The body of the plane had a marking "Y1 - 138." Foil, he said. FOIL?! In other news from the East Coast, a mysterious cylinder has crash-landed near Grovers Mill NJ.

#5 The plane's new diesel engine cut out during the flight, and the pilot was forced to land. Interesting. I always thought diesels were to heavy for airplane engines. |

#4 1. Link is hosed. Another link here. 2. "Owner is Cessna" according to the story. See yesterday's Rantburg post about the Iraqis buying Cessnas for training. Obviously the Florida media don't have a clue about doing research... 3. "Congressman Kucinich, you have a call from New Jersey, from a Mister...Kzrbchyzyz on line 4..." |
