48 LTTE rebels, seven govt. soldiers killed in fresh clashes in N.Sri Lanka

(KUNA) -- At least 48 rebels of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and seven government soldiers have been killed in fresh clashes in Northern Sri Lanka. At least 25 LTTE cadres were killed near Adampan in Mannar district yesterday, the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry said in a statement Sunday. At least four soldiers were killed in clashes in Parayakulam and Ilanthaiyan in Mannar yesterday, Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said in a statement today. As many as 23 LTTE rebels were killed in Vavuniya and Welioya yesterday, the Defence Ministry said. Three soldiers were also killed in the clashes at the Welioya front also yesterday, MCNS said.
